For water stains, we first ensure the source of moisture is resolved. Then we clean the area thoroughly and apply a stain-blocking primer specifically designed to prevent bleed-through. For smoke damage, we use specialized cleaning solutions to remove residue, then apply appropriate primers to seal any remaining stains and odors. In severe cases, we may recommend replacing damaged drywall or plaster.

Sanding physically abrades the surface to create "tooth" for paint adhesion, while chemical deglossing uses solutions to etch glossy surfaces. Sanding is more effective for removing textures and imperfections, while deglossing is better for hard-to-reach areas or surfaces that might be damaged by sanding. We choose the method based on the surface type, condition, and the finish you're applying.

You don't need to completely empty the room, but we do recommend moving furniture to the center and covering it with protective materials. Surface preparation creates dust from sanding and potentially splatters from cleaning solutions. We use professional containment systems to minimize dust spread, but moving fragile items and valuables to another room is advisable for their protection.

Preparation time varies based on surface condition and room size. For an average room in good condition, preparation typically takes 1-2 days. Rooms with significant damage, multiple repairs, or extensive cleaning needs might require 2-3 days. We provide detailed timelines during our initial assessment. Remember that proper preparation, while taking time initially, ultimately saves time by preventing future problems and repaints.
